We got to know each other the way all great love stories start: checking for contraband in kids’ backpacks.

Ethan had already claimed a table when Daysha came and sat down across from him at a teacher professional development day. That first conversation sparked something, and he made sure to keep in touch—especially during scanning duty, where we were both assigned to check student backpacks each morning at John Marshall High School. What started as casual hallway chats slowly grew into something more. Toward the end of the school year, Ethan walked up to Daysha’s classroom, knocked on her door, and asked her out on a date. (Bold move… and it worked.)

Our first date was classic us. We hit up Up-Down, an arcade in OKC, and then grabbed ice cream from Roxy’s. It didn’t take long before we made it official. We spent that summer hanging out, going on dates, and fitting in time together between football workouts. Once school started again, we tried to keep things lowkey (no need for the teacher’s lounge to turn into TMZ).

During football season, life got hectic, but we made it work. No matter how late Ethan got home from games, Daysha was always there to welcome him. And when we needed a break from the chaos, $5 Tuesdays at Tinseltown—a local movie theater—became our go-to date night, usually followed by ice cream or a little line dancing if we were feeling extra fun.

What started as hallway conversations turned into love, laughter, and a life we can’t wait to keep building together. Now, we’re getting married, and we’re so excited to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.
